The Christian Closet

In polite company one is not supposed to talk about sex, religion or politics but since this is a site about bisexuality I might as well throw in the other two topics. President Donald Trump's new cabinet is made up of a who's who of anti LGBT bigots and I am afraid we are in for a new period of  contempt and disdain for gays, bisexuals, lesbian and transgender friends.

The sad thing is there are thousands more just like them speaking hate in the name of Christianity and they feel empowered by the recent change in the political landscape. Friends , this is not a pathway to making America great again. God and Jesus loves bisexuals I know it from the very heart of my soul. Every time someone in the name of Christianity goes off on some homophobic rant of intolerance it makes it harder for the rest of us to say I'm proud to be a Christian. Gay,bisexual, lesbian and transgender Christians all need to come out of the Christian closet and speak up. Jesus mingled with everyone he came across no matter their religion or station in life. He spoke of love and his parables are full of acceptance . There was no hate in his teachings. He never once said God hates fags.

Frankly people of all religions and even those with no religion have been driven into the closet by self righteous my way or the highway bigots. We can all learn from each other. My friends are Buddhist,Muslim,  Jewish, Hindu, Pagan, Atheist, Christian, Catholic and Mormon plus a multitude of religious beliefs I don't even know about. They are all welcome into my life and as friends.

So why do I call it the Christian Closet? It is because a bigoted few with big sticks and even bigger mouths make admitting we are Christian synonymous with I hate you and your kind. I have friends who are bisexual, gay, lesbian and transgender. I want them to know that they are loved , A bigoted few make my saying I am proud to be a Christian synonymous with I hate you because you are gay, how sad is that?.

One possibility is to preface I am a Christian with I am a gay, bisexual,  lesbian or transgender Christian but that's not the answer either. Unconditional love for all of humanity should never require a qualifier. If it wasn't for their hate I would not have to qualify, we have work to do to fix this. This is why I am out of the closet as a Christian and as a bisexual. I need to stand up for what is right. Just to be clear if someone believes that being GLBT is wrong that is their right but it needs to be qualified as their own personal belief they need to own their bigotry for themselves and no one else.

No one is asking them to be gay but they have no business telling me that the person God created me as is anything but fabulous, so they need to be quiet. Now if I could just find a spiritual home in the town I live. There is not a single welcoming and affirming Christian Church in my town. We need to to stand up for what we believe in. We need to believe out loud. Change needs to come.  If you know Donald Trump or one of these cabinet members personally , please speak to them, let us pray they have a change of heart. Thank you for listening. Mark
